Mesias Maiguascha

Is an Ecuadorian composer based on Freiburg and an advocate of New Music. He belongs to a generation of South American sound composers that in the 1960s, along with Edgar Valcárcel, César Bolaños, Beatriz Ferreyra, contributed to expanding the possibilities of musical language beyond the prevailing Western canon. This occasion will be the European premiere of his composition Canción de La Tierra first performed in Quito in 2013. A concert that took place within the frame of the Andean celebration of the Inti-Raymi with the “Orquesta de Instrumentos Andinos,” a wind ensemble, a choir, and several sound objects created by Maiguashca. The audiovisual work is a document and reminder of this event, with original recordings of the concert, spatialized audio, and a video by the artist Carlos Poete about the world of the Ecuadorian Andes. Laura Mello

The Brazilian artist will be presenting the piece Composing for many media including me, an ongoing performance series exploring the relationships among sound, visual, and movement. The Radical Latinamerica Sounds issue focusses on the idea of spinning in its broadest sense. A performer is supposed to drill her instruments and ends up being drilled by them into an environment on stage where hierarchies melt together in one. Her work has been seen and heard at Heroines of Sound, Transparent Sound Budapest, Dystopia Festival, Tonspur MQ Wien, CTM, Festival der Regionen, Dfunk Kultur, Ö1, BBC3, Resonance FM, Orange 94 FM from Vienna and Reboot FM from Berlin. In 2018 she released the double-groove 7“ LP Ringing Still Life and the CD Está Verde!, the last one being released in 2020 as a digital album.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/4″][agni_image img_url=”2098″ img_size=”large” animation=”1″ animation_duration=”0.8″ animation_delay=”0.4″][vc_column_text padding_left=”10px” animation=”1″ animation_duration=”0.8″ animation_delay=”0.4″]

CATNAPP

Favoring emotional expressionism and intense beats, Catnapp (Amparo Battaglia) is pushing the boundaries of electronic music with a unique and bold take on songwriting and production. Her music and live shows are at once challenging and highly relatable, as she combines cutting-edge millennial aesthetics with openhearted lyricism and barely filtered feelings. Her performing style was widely acknowledged as she played some of the biggest stages available for electronic underground artists, from Melt! to Sonar Festival, from SXSW to Berghain. She launched her own label NAPP Records in 2017, allowing her to push and support exciting new artists that explore similarly experimental and idiosyncratic sounds.
